CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Cairn University men's volleyball team won, 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-20) on the road at Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) adversary Wilson College on Thursday evening, earning their fourth-consecutive straight-set triumph and eighth-straight win overall.
Cairn (8-4, 6-0 CSAC) jetted out to an early lead, but Wilson (6-7, 4-2 CSAC) hung around at a 20-12 disadvantage near the end of the set. The Highlanders closed the frame on a 5-1 run to claim the first set victory. After earning a commanding 25-11 triumph in the second set, the Highlanders had to battle to put away the Phoenix is set three, as Wilson held a 10-7 edge at the midway point. Cairn responded by rattling off 11-straight points to take an 18-10 lead, however, Wilson answered with a 9-1 run of its own to knot the score up at 19 a-piece down the stretch. The Highlanders regrouped after a timeout and finished off the match on a 6-1 run to earn the straight-set victory.
Cairn was led offensively by junior
Caleb Horning (Adamstown, PA / Cocalico) who slammed down a match-high seven kills, while juniors
Joshua Hoagland (Chiang Rai, Thailand / Chiang Rai International Christian School) and
Cameron Cronk (Quakertown, PA / Quakertown Community) each finished with six kills a-pop. Hoagland tallied a match-high .556 hitting percentage and led the defensive effort with career-high six blocks at the net. Junior
Shea Scott (Harleysville, PA / Souderton) boosted the Highlander defense with a match-high six digs and dished out a match-high 12 assists.
Cairn will be back in action on Saturday, March 26 when it welcomes CSAC foes Rosemont College and Pratt Institute to the Mason Activity Center for a conference tri-match. The Highlanders will play the Ravens at 11 a.m. before taking on Pratt at 3 p.m.
