PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. – The Cairn University men's volleyball team won, 3-0 (25-7, 25-15, 25-11) on the road at Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe University of Valley Forge on Tuesday evening, sweeping the Lions for their seventh-straight and fourth-straight shutout.
Cairn (8-4, 6-0 CSAC) commanded momentum from the opening serve, dominating Valley Forge (0-13, 0-4 CSAC) in the first set (25-7) to take a 1-0 match lead. In the second set, Cairn held a firm 24-10 advantage before the Patriots rattled off five-straight points to get back in the set. However, a kill from Highlanders sophomore
Will Nase (Harleysville, PA / Souderton) finished off the set to give Cairn a 2-0 match, lead and the Highlanders went on to finish off the Patriots in set three for the straight-set triumph.
Cairn was led offensively by junior
Caleb Horning (Adamstown, PA / Cocalico) who hammered home a match-high 10 kills to the mark of a .474 hitting percentage, while Nase and sophomore
Joe Poirier (Nogyang, South Korea / International Christian School) each added six kills a-piece. Nase also collected a match-high eight digs and a match-high six service aces, while sophomore
Nathan Tran (Turnersville, NJ / Washington Township) dished out a match-high 13 assists.
Cairn will be back in action on Thursday, March 24 when it finishes off its four-game road trip against CSAC foe Wilson College in Chambersburg at 7 p.m.
