LA PLUME, Pa. – The Cairn University men's soccer team opened up their 2022 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) schedule at Keystone College on Saturday, earning a 2-2 draw in a rematch of last year's CSAC Semifinals.
"It's always a tough challenge to play Keystone, let alone at their place." remarked Head Coach
Luke Gibson.
"Today was no different as we opened up conference play. Our guys showed a lot of resolve in a hard fought game."
Cairn (4-5-3, 0-0-1 CSAC) engaged in a tight, defensive-centric contest with Keystone (3-7-1, 0-0-1 CSAC) early, resulting in a 0-0 stalemate at the halftime intermission. The Giants opened the scoring in the 54th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Highlanders had the answer just six minutes later, when sophomore
Moses Beers (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Township) deposited a free kick into the right-hand portion of the net to knot the score up at 1-1. Cairn took the lead in the 73rd minute, when Beers created some space and cut back to the middle of the pitch, firing a shot off the left woodwork, and classmate
Jesse Brittain (Chester, PA / The Christian Academy) buried the rebound attempt to give Cairn the lead. Keystone quickly responded, scoring just two minutes later to tie the bout, and the contest stayed at that score for the remainder of the contest.
Cairn narrowly outshot Keystone (13-12) in the contest and held the edge in shots on goal (6-5). The Giants held the slight advantage in corner kick opportunities (7-5). Beers led the scoring output with one goal and one assist, while fifth-year net minder
Kameron Clark (Ewing, NJ / Ewing) corralled three saves in a complete game effort.
The Highlanders will be back on the pitch on Wednesday, October 12, when they return home to continue conference play against Bryn Athyn College inside the Stillman Complex at 3:30 p.m.
