BRISTOL, Pa. – The Cairn University men's soccer team moved their win streak to two games to start the 2021 season with a 4-1 home victory over Gallaudet University on Saturday evening.
The contest was highlighted by the performance of freshman
Jesse Brittain (Chester, PA / The Christian Academy), as he tied the program record with four goals in one game. Brittain joins men's soccer alumni Phil Haas '09, Derek Mosely '07 and Dan Noble '93 as the only players in the Cairn University record-book to notch four goals in a single contest.
Brittain's four goals came on eight shots and were all inside the box or just outside of it. Brittain scored twice in the first ten minutes of the contest to give Cairn (2-0) and 2-0 lead. Cairn held that lead until near the end of the first half, before Gallaudet (0-2) scored with just 10 seconds left before intermission to cut the Highlanders lead in half. The Bison had a golden opportunity to flip momentum in their favor when they were awarded a penalty kick in the 47
th minute. However, senior goalkeeper
Kameron Clark (Ewing, NJ / Ewing) shut the door, stopping the PK and nullifying any momentum Gallaudet attempted to gain. Brittain proceeded to score two more times in the next 11 minutes to put the game out of reach.
On top of Brittain's impressive numbers, junior
Easton Shelley (Elkton, MD / Elkton) contributed a career-high three assists, while freshman
Moses Beers (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Township) also added an assist. Clark claimed the victory between the pipes after collecting seven saves in a complete-game effort.
The Highlanders will be back on the pitch on Tuesday, September 7 when they travel to Arcadia University for their first road contest of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
