Men’s Soccer: Highlanders Bounce Back with Road Win over Devils

MADISON, N.J. – The Cairn University men's soccer team won by a score of 2-1 on the road against non-conference foe FDU-Florham University on Wednesday evening.

Cairn (4-2-2) and FDU-Florham (6-3-1) engaged in a tight, defensive duel early in the contest. The Highlanders entered the score sheet first, as Cairn sophomore Jarek Underation (Lynchburg, VA / Liberty Christian Academy) took a free kick from 25 yards out and found a streaking senior Josh Goodyear (Camp Hill, PA / Camp Hill) who converted the header to give Cairn a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute, also marking Underation's first collegiate point. Cairn increased its lead to 2-0 just over three minutes later, as Goodyear delivered a cross from the right side to freshman Jayson Fields (Vineland, NJ / Cumberland Christian) marking the first goal of his collegiate tenure in his first career contest. Cairn took a 2-0 lead into intermission. The Devils made things interesting with a goal in the 71st minute, but the Highlanders defensive unit held firm and sealed the victory.

Goodyear paced the Highlanders with three points on a goal and an assist. Senior goalkeeper Kameron Clark (Ewing, NJ / Ewing) collected a game-high eight saves in a complete game effort.

The Highlanders will be back on the pitch on Saturday, October 2 when they return to official Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play as they welcome Clarks Summit University to town for a 6 p.m. matchup that will be held at Bryn Athyn College.
