Men’s Soccer: Highlanders Blank Cavaliers in Road Matchup

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cairn University men's soccer team won by a score of 2-0 on the road against non-conference foe Cabrini University on Wednesday evening.

Cairn (3-2-1) and Cabrini (4-3-1) engaged in a defensive battle early, with neither team yielding a goal in the first half. The Cavaliers pressured the Highlanders back line, outshooting Cairn 6-1 in the first half. However, Cabrini only managed one shot on net in the first 45 minutes and the game remained tied into intermission. The Highlanders wasted no time at the start of the second half, as freshman Jesse Brittain (Chester, PA / The Christian Academy) darted past the Cabrini back line just over ten seconds into the half and fired a shot off the crossbar, graduate student Brandon Hasko (Pitman, NJ / Pitman) collected the rebound and scored to give Cairn a 1-0 lead. The Highlanders collected an insurance goal in the 74th minute, as Brittain continued his brilliance, scoring his eighth goal of the season after chipping the ball to himself over the goalkeeper inside the box to boost Cairn's lead to 2-0, a lead that would become the final score.

Cabrini out shot Cairn (9-8) in the contest but the Highlanders bested the Cavaliers in shots on goal (4-3). Both teams earned four corner kicks on the day. Senior goalkeeper Kameron Clark (Ewing, NJ / Ewing) collected four saves on the day.

The Highlanders will be back on the pitch on Saturday, September 25 when they open up Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play at home against Rosemont College at Bristol Township Park. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m.
