BRISTOL, Pa. – The Cairn University men's soccer team opened up their season at home on Thursday evening with a 4-2 victory over Goucher College.
The Highlanders (1-0) took command early, as freshman
Jesse Brittain (Chester, PA / The Christian Academy) danced past the Gopher back line and scored to put Cairn up 1-0. Brittain made Goucher (0-1) hurt again just four minutes later, as he scored again to give Cairn a firm 2-0 lead just over 17 minutes into the contest. The Highlanders took that 2-0 lead into the halftime intermission. In the second half, Cairn was granted a corner kick to the keeper's right side where freshman
Moses Beers (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Township) delivered a beautiful cross in the box to a sliding senior
Josh Goodyear (Camp Hill, PA / Camp Hill HS) to put Cairn up 3-0 in the 50th minute. Goucher got its first tally of the contest in the 53
rd minute, but Cairn responded when Beers scored his first collegiate goal in the 67
th minute to seal the win for Cairn.
Brittain led the way with a pair of goal on six shots, while Beers added one goal and a pair of assists. Goodyear added a goal and an assist, while senior
Micah Portis (Abington, PA / Abington HS) added two assists. Senior goalkeeper
Kameron Clark (Ewing, NJ, Ewing) commanded the net with a game- and career high 15 saves, including a momentum-changing stop on a Goucher penalty kick in the 72
nd minute.
The Highlanders will be back on the pitch on Saturday, September 4 when they welcome Gallaudet University to town. Kick-off is slated for 5 p.m.
