Women’s Soccer: Offensive Onslaught Lifts Highlanders over Trinity

NEWTOWN, Pa. – The Cairn University women's soccer team won their first game of the young season by a score of 6-0 at home against Trinity University (DC) on Friday evening. In the contest, five different Highlanders scored a goal in a complete offensive effort.

Cairn (1-3) struck first in the 19th minute when sophomore Becca Marzinke (Quakertown, PA / Upper Bucks Christian) found the back of the net for the first goal of her career to give the Highlanders the lead. Cairn scored again in the 27th minute when senior Sarah Jackson (Milltown, NJ / Middlesex Community College) scored off of a cross from classmate Dakota Hitchner (Ocean View, NJ / Atlantic Christian) to make it 2-0, a score the Highlanders would take into halftime. In the second half, Hitchner got in on the scoring when she fired a shot over the keeper's outstretched arms to increase their lead over Trinity (0-2) to 3-0. Two more Highlanders registered their first collegiate goals in the second half, as sophomore Savannah Luce (Nairobi, Kenya / Rift Valley Academy) scored in the 69th minute and freshman Julia Wright (Harrisonville, PA / Shalom Christian Academy) earned her tally in the 72nd minute. Marzinke scored again in 76th minute to cap off her multi-goal performance.

Marzinke led the scoring output with two goals, while Jackson collected a goal and a game-and career high two assists. Wright and Hitchner each also added an assist. Freshman goalkeeper Isabelle Lazor (Midland Park, NJ / Eastern Christian) corralled three saves in the shutout, the first of her career.

The Highlanders will be back on the pitch on tomorrow when they welcome the Brooklyn College Bulldogs to Bristol Township Park for a non-conference home game. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
