Women’s Soccer: Highlanders Fall to Neumann in Non-Conference Bout on the Road

ASTON Pa. – The Cairn University women's soccer team lost on the road in non-conference contest against Neumann University by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday evening.

In the first half, Neumann (2-1) generated most of the offensive chances, out-shooting the Highlanders (0-3) 10-2 in the first half. However, the Knights only managed four of those ten shots on goal. The Knights got a good opportunity to break the scoreless game in the waning seconds of the first frame with a pair of shots on Cairn freshman goalkeeper Isabelle Lazor (Midland Park, NJ / Eastern Christian). However, Lazor turned the shots away and the game remained tied at intermission.

Neumann broke through in the second half after a ball bounced around in the box and found the foot of Emily Cooper to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. Neumann deposited another goal into the back of the net in the 84th minute and sealed the victory with limited time remaining.

Neumann held the edge in shots (15-3) and shots on goal (8-2). The Knights also held the advantage in corner kicks (5-1). Lazor made a career-high six saves in the complete game effort.

The Highlanders will be back on the pitch on Friday September 17 when they welcome Trinity Washington University to town. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m at Bristol Township Park.
