LANGHORNE, PA-- Cairn opened conference play against Wilson College and swept the Phoenix out of Langhorne with a 3-0 victory.
The Highlander's normal starting lineup made quick work of the the Phoenix in set one, winning with a landslide 25-6 set score.
Caleb Horning had 4 aces in the first set alone, and setter
Scott Bassill distributed the ball well, as 5 Highlanders registered a first-set kill.
Head coach
Nate Seidle mixed up his lineups for the second and third sets, giving reigning CSAC Player of the Week Bassill a well-deserved rest and turning to
Nathan Tran and
Shea Scott as the Highlanders' setters for the rest of the match. The duo did well in relief, as both registered 5 assists along with Bassill's 6 from the first set. The Highlanders' new lineup was able to secure a second and third set victory to earn Cairn a 1-0 record in conference play and preserve the Highlander's six-game winning streak.
Cairn's balanced offense was led by middle blocker
Joe Poirier with 5 kills;
Shea Scott was not far behind with 4 kills of his own. Defensively, the Highlanders racked up 25 digs and 10 blocks as a team while holding the Phoenix to only 5 kills on a -.283 hitting percentage.
Cameron Cronk led Cairn from the back line with an impressive 7 aces, including four in a row to begin the second set. Cronk's serving performance places him third all-time for individual aces in a three-set match in Cairn men's volleyball history.
The Highlanders will put thier conference record and winning streak on the line when they welcome the Patriots of the University of Valley Forge to Langhorne this Saturday (4/10) at 12 PM. Cairn beat UVF 3-0 earlier this season in a non-conference matchup. As it is their last scheduled home game, the Highlanders will honor the stellar careers of seniors
