After dropping a close first set, the Highlanders rebound to win their first home match of the season against the Immaculata Mighty Macs, 3 sets to 1.
For the first time in 377 days, competitive volleyball was played in the Mason Activity Center, and Cairn men's volleyball did not disappoint on their return to the MAC. After sweeping the Mighty Macs in three sets during the 2020 season, expectations were high that the Highlanders would repeat their success against Immaculata this season. However, Immaculata came to Langhorne with equal determination to avenge their loss from the season before, and the two teams clashed in a back-and-forth battle in set one. Neither team could pull more than a few points ahead than the other, and the score was tied up 11 times in the first set.
Collin Benjamin tied the set at 23 points with a well-timed kill, but a Highlander service error followed by a hitting error ended the set in Immaculata's favor, 25-23.
After hitting just .029 in the first set, the Highlanders flipped the script in the second set, racking up 14 kills at a .393 clip for their most efficient hitting percentage of the match.
Dave Cassel was the go-to man for Cairn in the second set, putting down 6 kills with no errors for an impressive .750 hitting percentage. The Highlanders' efficient hitting and their 85% side-out percentage led to a runaway final set score of 25-14, tying the overall set scores at one apiece.
The third and fourth sets highlighted the Highlander's defense. 29 team digs and 7 team blocks in those two sets held the Mighty Macs to a negative hitting percentage for the rest of the match, leading to a third set score of 25-15 and a fourth set score of 25-18 for a Highlander 3-1 match victory.
