Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Highlanders Drop Back-and-Forth Game with Greyhounds

In a game that saw 11 ties and 15 lead changes before the final buzzer, the Highlanders went cold down the stretch and lost their second game in a row, 88-80.

The first half started neck-and-neck, with the Highlanders and Greyhounds trading buckets at a quick pace. Kameron Clark did his usual work around the basket, going 4-4 from the field and 4-7 from the line in the first half. Matt Lucas chipped in two early 3's, and a fastbreak layup by Jesse Rivera put the Highlanders up 31-30 with 8 minutes to go in the first half. The Greyhounds then caught fire and went on a 16-2 scoring run in the following 5 minutes. Down but never out, Cairn clawed their way back into the game, with two back-to-back Andrew Aycoth 3's and clutch foul shooting by Dashaun Cain giving the Highlanders a 49-47 advantage going into the locker room.

Any momentum built by that halftime lead fell just short in the second period of play. Neither team could build more than a five-point advantage for most of the second half, and with just 3:44 remaining in the game, an Elias Ortiz three tied the score up at 75 points apiece. However, Cairn's shooters lost their rhythm in the final minutes of the game, and the Greyhounds were able to hit crucial outside shots and get to the line in order to ice the game for the win, 88-80.

Cairn shot well in the first half, going 46% from beyond the arc, but only went 9-34 from the floor and 2-16 from deep in the second half. Moravian's lockdown defense, including 4 blocks and 12 steals, forced 22 Highlander turnovers that swung the momentum in the Greyhound's favor late in the game. Cairn did continue their stellar performance on the glass this season, out-rebounding Moravian 48-30 and putting up 25 second-chance points.

Moravian's Keith Otto was the high man of the game with 30 points and 8 rebounds. Kameron Clark continued to stuff the stat sheet with another double-double, scoring 20 points and pulling down 23 boards. Dashaun Cain also had a double-double, with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Josh Forker chipped in 19 points, including 3 three-pointers.

The Highlanders are off for the next few days before facing CSAC opponent Clarks Summit University in Langhorne on Friday at 7 PM, and finishing the series in Clarks Summit on Saturday. Highlander fans are invited to tune into the livestream at cairnhighlanders.com/tv, and students are invited to an on-campus watch party in Holmes Hall on Friday!
