A close halftime score gave way to the Highlanders' first loss of the season, dropping the first of two matchups this month with Lancaster Bible College, 68-86.
The Highlanders have used balanced scoring, bench contributions, and winning the turnover differential to cruise to an undefeated 4-0 start this season, but all these elements fell just short in Lancaster tonight. The Highlanders enjoyed a steady lead for most of the first half, led by several
Kameron Clark layups and excellent three-point shooting by
Noah Mitchell, but the Chargers took a one-point lead on a layup by Britton Beachy with five minutes to halftime and never looked back. LBC ratcheted up their defensive efforts in the second half, stifling any chance of a Cairn comeback on both ends of the floor. Cairn's bench was outscored 39-17, and the Chargers forced 15 uncharacteristic Cairn turnovers leading to a staggering 27-2 points off turnovers advantage for LBC. Despite the continued dominance of junior center
Kameron Clark, the Highlanders were also outscored in the paint, 48-28. Cairn did outshoot Lancaster Bible from beyond the arc (10-28), led by
Noah Mitchell going 5-6 from deep.
Lancaster Bible's Jordan Shewbridge led all players with 21 points;Â Cairn was led by
Noah Mitchell with 17 points on 67% shooting.
Kameron Clark continued to hold his own under the basket, with another double-double of 15 points and 18 rebounds.Â
The Highlanders will have a quick turnaround time before returning to Langhorne to face their next opponent, the Greyhounds of Moravian College. Gametime is scheduled for 7 PM on Monday, February 22nd.Â
