Women’s Soccer: Highlanders Shutout Defenders in Convincing CSAC Victory

BRISTOL, Pa. – The Cairn University women's soccer team remained unbeaten in conference play with an 11-0 win over Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Clarks Summit University at home on Saturday evening. Eight Highlanders scored and 11 Cairn players registered a point in the dominant victory.

Cairn (7-4-1, 4-0-1 CSAC) continued its theme of getting out to hot starts, scoring two goals within the first 16 minutes of the contest. Cairn's offensive prowess proved too much for Clarks Summit (3-6, 2-2 CSAC) as it led 8-0 at halftime after registering 28 shots in the first half opposed to none for the Lady Defenders. The Highlanders back line did an excellent job containing reigning CSAC Player of the Week Shelby Brownlee for Clarks Summit, limiting her to just two shots in the contest, with none being on goal.

As mentioned, eight different Highlanders scored in the contest, led by senior Sarah Jackson (Milltown, NJ / Middlesex County College) who registered her registered her first career hat trick with a career-high three goals. Following Jackson was sophomore Ashanley Phillipe (Santiago, Dominican Republic / Santiago Christian School) who scored the first two goals of her collegiate career. Also tallying goals for Cairn were seniors Dakota Hitchner (Ocean View, NJ / Atlantic Christian) and Lauren Costa (Egg Harbor City, NJ / The Pilgrim Academy), sophomores Teresa Lee (Jackson, NJ / Calvary Academy), Grace Miller (Chapel Hill, NC / Central Bucks West) and Em Kuansongtham (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School of Bangkok) and freshman Julia Wright (Harrisonville, PA / Shalom Christian Academy). Miller and classmate Becca Marzinke (Quakertown, PA / Upper Bucks Christian) tallied game-and career highs with three assists, while Costa and Lee dished out two assists. Wright, junior Rachel Yoder (Telford, PA / Souderton) and sophomore Micaela Prate (Huntingdon Valley, PA / Calvary Christian Academy) each added one assist. Freshman goalkeeper Isabella Lazor (Midland Park, NJ / Easter Christian) collected her seventh win of the season and third-straight shutout in a complete game effort.

The Highlanders will be back on the pitch on Wednesday, October 13 when they welcome Cedar Crest College to Bristol Township Park in a rematch of the CSAC Championship game from 2019. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
