LA PLUME, Pa. – The Cairn University women's soccer team won on the road by a score of 5-0 at Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Keystone College on Wednesday, their fifth shutout of the season. With the win, the Highlanders officially clinched a berth in the CSAC playoffs for the third-consecutive season.
Cairn (8-7-1, 5-2-1 CSAC) and Keystone (2-10, 2-6 CSAC) engaged in a defensive battle early, with neither team scoring through the first 25 minutes. However, in the 29
th and 30
th minutes, Cairn broke through with two goals courtesy of senior
Lauren Costa (Egg Harbor City, NJ / The Pilgrim Academy) to give Cairn a 2-0 lead. The Highlanders got one more goal before intermission off the foot of sophomore
Teresa Lee (Jackson, NJ / Calvary Academy) and took a 3-0 lead into the break. The Highalanders added two insurance goals in the second half from seniors
Dakota Hitchner (Ocean View, NJ / Atlantic Christian) and
Ellen Beck (Charlestown, NH / Fall Mountain) in the 60
th and 77
th minutes, respectively.
Cairn dominated offensively, pouring on 46 shots, including 16 on goal. The Highlanders also earned 11 corner kicks in the contest. Costa led the way with a pair of goals, while sophomore
Becca Marzinke (Quakertown, PA / Upper Bucks Christian) posted a game-high two assists. Senior
Sarah Jackson (Milltown, NJ / Middlesex County College) and sophomore
Micaela Prate (Huntingdon Valley, PA / Calvary Christian Academy) each added an assist. Freshman goalkeeper
Isabelle Lazor (Midland Park, NJ / Eastern Christian) earned the win and the complete game shutout in net.
The Highlanders will be back on the pitch on Saturday, October 30 for their last regular season game before playoffs at home against Saint Elizabeth University at 6 p.m. Senior Day festivities will take place 20 minutes before the contest.
