BRISTOL, Pa. – The Cairn University women's soccer team won by a shutout score of 6-0 over Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Saint Elizabeth University on Senior Day in their final regular season contest on Saturday evening.
Before the contest, the Highlanders honored their five seniors who will be graduating this spring,
Lauren Costa (Egg Harbor City, NJ / The Pilgrim Academy),
Dakota Hitchner (Ocean View, NJ / Atlantic Christian),
Autumn Brownell (Quakertown, PA / Faith Christian Academy),
Sarah Jackson (Milltown, NJ / Middlesex Community College) and
Ellen Beck (Charlestown, NH / Fall Mountain).
Cairn (9-7-1, 6-2-1 CSAC) jumped ahead of Saint Elizabeth (2-11, 1-8 CSAC) with a goal by Jackson in the 15
th minute. The Highlanders increased their lead to 2-0 when sophomore
Micaela Prate (Huntingdon Valley, PA / Calvary Christian Academy) netted her second goal of the season in the 36
th minute to increase the Cairn lead to 2-0, a lead the Highlanders took into intermission. The Highlanders scored four times in the second half and their backline held the Eagles to just one shot in the contest en route to victory.
Cairn dominated offensively, pouring on 38 shots, including 20 on goal for an efficient rate. Cairn earned 12 corner kick opportunities in the contest and converted goals on two of those chances. Jackson led the scoring output with two goals while Hitchner, Prate, junior
Rachel Yoder (Telford, PA / Souderton) and sophomore
Teresa Lee (Jackson, NJ / Calvary Academy) each tallied a goal. Costa and Jackson each dished out a game-high two assists, while sophomores
Grace Miller (Chapel Hill, NC / Central Bucks West) and
Becca Marzinke (Quakertown, PA / Upper Bucks Christian) each recorded one assist. Freshman goalkeeper
Isabelle Lazor (Midland Park, NJ / Eastern Christian) earned the compelte game shutout in net, her seventh shutout of the season.
With the win, the Highlanders earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming CSAC Tournament and will host the quarterfinals on Monday against Notre Dame of Maryland University at Bristol Township Park at 6 p.m.
