LA PLUME, Pa. – The Cairn University men's soccer team lost by a score of 1-0 at Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Keystone College on Saturday evening, marking their first official conference loss of the season.
Cairn (9-3-2, 4-1-1 CSAC) controlled the action early, firing three shots within the first ten minutes of the contest. In the 23
rd minute, Highlander freshman
Jesse Brittain (Chester, PA / The Christian Academy) fired a shot on net, but it was stopped to keep the game deadlocked. Keystone (8-6-1, 5-1 CSAC) got its own chance in the 35
th minute, firing a shot on Cairn senior goalkeeper
Kameron Clark (Ewing, NJ / Ewing), but Clark pushed it aside to keep the game tied at intermission. In the 61
st minute, the Giants broke through after getting a shot on Clark that was stopped, however a Cairn foul inside the box granted Keystone a penalty kick which it converted to claim a 1-0 lead. The Highlanders were unable to get any shots on net for the remainder of the contest.
Keystone narrowly edged Cairn in shots (12-9) and shots on goal (4-1). The Highlanders held the advantage in corner kicks (3-1). Clark collected three saves in the complete game effort while Brittain fired off a team-high four shots.
The Highlanders, who have already qualified for the CSAC playoffs, are currently slated third in the CSAC standings and will travel to Chambersburg on Wednesday, October 27 for their final regular season game against Wilson College with playoff-seeding implications on the line at 3 p.m.
