Women’s Soccer: Late Goal Lifts Wilson over Highlanders

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Cairn University women's soccer team lost on the road against Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Wilson College by a score of 1-0 on Wednesday.

Cairn (7-7-1, 4-2-1 CSAC) generated the only offense in the first 30 minutes of the contest, as senior Lauren Costa (Egg Harbor City, NJ / The Pilgrim Academy) fired a shot on Wilson (8-5, 6-1 CSAC) in the fifth minute. The Highlanders outshot the Phoenix 4-3 in the first half, however the game remained tied at intermission. Wilson controlled the offensive momentum in the second half, compiling six shots in the period, forcing Cairn freshman goalkeeper Isabelle Lazor (Midland Park, NJ / Eastern Christian) to make three saves in the period. The Phoenix broke through in the 85th minute, getting a shot past later for the first and final goal of the contest.

Wilson held the edge in shots (9-4) and shots on goal (5-1). Cairn and Wilson matched in corner kicks (2-2). Costa paced the Highlander offense with two shots, while Lazor made four saves in a complete game effort.

The Highlanders will be back on the pitch on Tuesday, October 26 when they travel to La Plume to take on Keystone College in a road CSAC contest at 6 p.m.
