PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. – The Cairn University women's soccer team remained unbeaten in conference play with a 15-0 victory over the University of Valley Forge on the road in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) contest on Saturday.
The Highlanders set a new program record with 15 goals in the contest, topping the previous record of 12 goals set 16 years ago against Polytechnic University on Oct. 1, 2005.
Cairn (5-4-1, 2-0-1 CSAC) controlled the momentum from the first kickoff, scoring seven goals in the first half, led by senior
Lauren Costa (Egg Harbor City, NJ / The Pilgrim Academy) with three first half tallies, including the first two of the contest. Senior
Dakota Hitchner (Ocean View, NJ / Atlantic Christian) added also added a first-half hat trick and one assist, while sophomore
Grace Miller (Chapel Hill, NC / Central Bucks West) recorded the other first half goal, her first career tally. Cairn put up eight more goals on Valley Forge (0-6, 0-2 CSAC) in the second half, led by sophomores
Becca Marzinke (Quakertown, PA / Upper Bucks Christian) and
Teresa Lee (Jackson, NJ / Calvary Academy) with two goals a-piece. The Highlanders collected four more goals in the half, courtesy of seniors
Sarah Jackson (Milltown, NJ / Middlesex County College) and
Ellen Beck (Charlestown, NH / Fall Mountain), sophomore
Em Kuansongtham (Bangkok, Thailand / International Community School of Bangkok) and freshman
Julia Wright (Harrisonville, PA / Shalom Christian Academy). Beck and Kuansongtham each scored their first collegiate goals.
Costa and Hitchner led Cairn in the stat sheet with seven points each (three goals and one assist), marking a career-high in points for both parties. Jackson added four points (one goal, two assists), while sophomore
Micaela Prate (Huntingdon Valley, PA / Calvary Christian Academy) dished out a career-high two assists. Cairn freshman goalkeeper
Isabelle Lazor (Midland Park, NJ / Eastern Christian) earned her fifth win of the season with a complete game effort.
The Highlanders will be back on the pitch on Tuesday, October 5 when they continue Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play as they travel to the Notre Dame of Maryland University. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
