Women’s Soccer: Highlanders Fall to Centenary in Final Non-Conference Game of Season

FAIRLESS HILLS, Pa. – The Cairn University women's soccer team lost at home against non-conference foe Centenary University (NJ) by a score of 2-0 on Saturday.

Centenary (3-7) controlled most the offensive momentum early on, firing four shots on net within the first 20 minutes. However, Cairn (7-6-1) freshman goalkeeper Isabelle Lazor (Midland Park, NJ / Eastern Christian) turned all three shots away to keep the game tied. The Cyclones broke through in the 39th minute after getting a shot past Lazor to make it 1-0, a lead Centenary took into intermission. Cairn knotted the game up at 1-1 in the 62nd minute when junior Rachel Yoder (Telford, PA / Souderton) deposited a free kick into the lap of an awaiting senior Dakota Hitchner (Ocean View, NJ / Atlantic Christian) who took two touches and scored. Centenary quickly got the lead back just three minutes later with a goal in the 65th minute and Cairn was unable to answer for the remainder of the contest.

Centenary held the edge in shots (16-8), while the Highlanders bested the Cyclones in corner kicks (3-1). Lazor made six saves in a complete game effort.

The Highlanders will be back on the pitch on Wednesday, October 20 when they return to Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play to take on Wilson College in a road matchup at 4 p.m.
