All-Decade: Cairn Baseball Honorable Mention

Welcome back to the Cairn Athletics All-Decade Teams! Today we will be revealing the Cairn Baseball Honorable Mention before unveiling the first team later this week!

The Cairn Baseball All-Decade is a unique mix of early decade stalwarts, consistent performers, and a couple young guns currently still competing and bolstering already impressive resumes. Without further ado, here is the Cairn Baseball All-Decade Honorable Mention.

Catcher, Mike SundholmThe Highlanders standout catcher Mike Sundholm will kick things off for the All-Decade Honorable Mention squad. Sundholm played from 2009-2012 and managed an incredible .309 batting average with 121 hits, 34 doubles, and 68 RBI during his tenure behind the plate. With eye-popping batting numbers, Sundholm was a leader behind the plate and also contributed with a fiery arm from the mound when called upon.

Pitcher, Emilio Alvarez- Emilio Alvarez contributed majorly for the Highlanders during the most successful period in Cairn Baseball. Alvarez was a workhorse on the mound, known for his ability to battle and step up no matter the gravity of the situation. Alvarez picked up 5 wins, 4 saves, and 66 strikeouts in his time with the Highlanders.

Pitcher, Carson Conradt- A current Highlander Conradt has been incredibly impressive over the last three years as a Highlander. A consistently excellent performer Conradt has picked up 4 wins and 65 strikeouts in just two full years in a Highlander uniform. With a 4.45 ERA Conradt has battled through injuries and easily earned his spot onto the Highlanders All-Decade Honorable Mention team.

Outfield, Jeremy McAlack- McAlack is a rare breed as a member of the Cairn Soccer and Cairn Baseball All-Decade team. A natural athlete, McAlack used his blinding speed to track down balls in centerfield and sprint to base hits as the leadoff hitter during his time with Cairn Baseball. The owner of a .302 career batting average and .993 fielding percentage, McAlack was consistently excellent during his time as a Highlander.

Outfield, Jon Sanville- The outfielder/pitcher fondly known as "Big House", Sanville was a staple in the Highlanders lineup from 2011-2014. With a penchant for slapping base hits just past outstretched fielders and a distinct ability to get on base, Sanville was a true ironman for the Highlanders during his career. With a .294 average, Sanville held the Highlanders together as a consistently high-quality performer whether it was on the mound or at the plate.

Outfield, Chad Hollinger- Another of the Highlanders consistent outfielders during the early 2010s, Hollinger acted as a leader his entire career. With a .292 average and 83 hits, Hollinger spurred the Highlanders through the early parts of the decade and set the example for generations of Highlander players with his zealous approach to the game.

Outfield, Michael Sorowice- Up-and-coming star Michael Sorowice has burst onto the scene, having played just a year and a half in a Highlanders uniform. With a .291 average, 10 doubles, 5 triples, and 6 homeruns, Sorowice has shown an early ability to hit for power and change a game with just one swing. With blistering speed on the basepaths and patrolling centerfield, Sorowice will continue to break out over his next three years as a Highlander.

Outfield, Caleb Edman- The reigning CSAC Rookie of the Year, Edman stepped up majorly in his debut season as a Highlander. With 8 doubles and 37 RBI, Edman makes up the other half of the Highlanders outfield of the future. Edman is a hard-worker who made his name as a strong-armed right fielder with effortless power at the plate and stepped up massively during CSAC play last season to lead the Highlanders to their first ever CSAC Championship Appearance.

Infield, Aaron Takacs- Takacs was a two year member of the Highlanders who racked up unbelievable numbers, before transferring to Montreat University in the pursuit of a potential MLB career. Takacs hit .423 with 94 hits, 22 doubles, and 54 RBI in just two years as a Highlander. Despite only playing two seasons, Takacs made a huge impact during his tenure with Cairn.

Utility, Brian Amantia, Jr.- Amantia, Jr. is another current Highlander who burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2018. Playing both infield and outfield, Amantia, Jr. is a sweet-swinging lefty who currently sits T4 in triples in Cairn history and 3rd in homeruns with 8 (not counting his game-tying grand slam that was unceremoniously wiped away earlier this season). With truly effortless power and his name already etched in Highlander history, look for Amantia, Jr. to further his excellent career over the next two years.
