WIDENER, PA- Cairn men's volleyball opened the season in dramatic fashion Wednesday night. The Highlanders played a five set thriller against Widener University, battling back from a two set hole but falling in the fifth and final set.

The Highlanders showed great promise with a balanced attack as five different players finished with six or more kills. Colin Benjamin led the Highlanders with 8 kills and 3 blocks,
Dave Cassel,
Ben Norton, and
Cameron Cronk each finished with 7 kills, and Norton led the defense as well with 8 digs. In his first game as the setter,
Scott Bassill showed great promise with 31 assists and 2 blocks. Â

Cairn will not play again until next Wednesday when they travel to take on the College of Saint Elizabeth in a CSAC matchup.
