EWING, NJ- The Highlanders traveled to Ewing, New Jersey Friday afternoon to take on the nationally-ranked TCNJ Lions.
The Highlanders offense started off slowly, falling into a 4-0 hole from the start after the third inning. Cairn caught fire in the 5
th, putting up a five spot thanks to patient, timely hitting. The freshman trio of
Caleb Edman,
Michael Sorowice, and Josh Melchior set the table in excellent fashion- loading the bases for senior first basemen
Daniel Morales. Morales came through with a huge 2 RBI single to run TCNJ's starter from the contest.
Emilio Alvarez kept up the pressure, reaching first on an error and swiping second and third in step with
Alejandro Fernandez. The Highlanders' big inning led to a 5-4 lead that they stretched to 6-4 in the top of the 7
th with a
Brett Marks run. TCNJ bounced back in the bottom of the 7
th with a 6 run inning to vault back ahead 10-6. The Highlanders battled back in the top of the 9
th, Danny Morales smacked a single up the middle, scoring on a Marks double for Cairn's 7
th run. Unfortunately, a four run deficit was simply too much, and the Highlanders winning streak was broken.
The Highlanders will travel to Eastern University Tuesday night for a non-conference matchup against the Eagles. First pitch is slated for 3:30 PM.
