Eagles Soar Past Highlanders

St. Davids, PA- The Highlanders traveled to face the Eastern University Eagles on Tuesday afternoon.


The Eagles' offense started off hot, scoring 3 runs in the first inning. The Highlanders responded in the second with two runs thanks to a two out single from freshman Caleb Edman. Unfortunately, the Cairn bats grew quiet as the game progressed.  Sophomore Ben Spadea came in for relief and delivered two lights out innings for the Highlanders, but Eastern quickly responded; pushing three runs across in the fifth to extend their lead to five. Despite back to back singles by Nate Wilson and Emilio Alvarez in the sixth, Cairn trailed Eastern heading to the eighth. Another RBI single by Alvarez in the eighth scored freshman Josh Melchior.
Sophomore Bryan Stimpson and senior Daniel Morales contained the Eagles bats for the remainder of the game. Unfortunately the Highlanders could not climb back into it dropping the contest 3-7.


The Highlanders will return this weekend to face the University of Valley Forge in their first conference series. Go Cairn!
