LANGHORNE, PA- The Highlanders hosted two Division III powerhouses in Hunter College and Juniata College Saturday night. Cairn battled hard, but fell to both Hunter and Juniata and their imposing front lines.
Â
The Highlanders put a scare into Hunter in the first set, as
Ryan Ludvik and
Ben Norton set the tone with multiple kills each to give the Highlanders a 14-10 lead.
Anton Deleon and
Scott Bassill got into the mix with a couple kills as well to keep Cairn ahead. The Hawks came storming back to take a 23-20 lead, but two more kills from Deleon and an ace from
Jon Simpson kept the Highlanders alive. With the score set at 24-23, Hunter mustered a final kill to close out the first set 25-23. Unfortunately for the Highlanders, the Hawks caught fire from that point on, winning the next two sets to take the match 3-0.
Â
Deleon led the Highlanders with 7 kills, Ludvik notched two blocks, Simpson dished out 10 assists, and
Juston Wolgemuth carded 8 digs to lead the Highlanders.
Â
Against CVC opponent and longtime NCAA front-runner Juniata College, the Highlanders struggled with the Eagles length. The Highlanders simply had no answer for Juniata's trio of 6'6" attackers in the front line. The Highlanders lost in straight sets, closing out another busy day of volleyball.
Â
The Highlanders will host Immaculata University Friday night in their senior night contest. Prior to matches' start, Cairn will honor the stellar careers of
Ryan Ludvik,
Juston Wolgemuth, and
Aaron Delbury.
