LANGHORNE, PA- After a long stretch on the road, the Highlanders hosted Elizabethtown College Friday night in a CVC matchup.
The Highlanders new 6-2 formation paid off in spades, freeing up setter Ryan Ludvik from his spot in the middle and allowing him the chance to utilize his prodigious attacking skill as well. The Highlanders also started towering underclassmen, Dave Cassel and Scott Bassill in an attempt to overwhelm the Blue Jays' relatively undersized front line.
Cairn fell in a competitive first set, struggling to find their groove early on. The HIghlanders notched an early lead in the second set, holding at three points thanks to a Ludvik kill and Collin Benjamin ace. A kill from Dave Cassel gave Cairn a 23-21 lead, however, Elizabethtown came storming back- scoring the next four points to take the second set 25-23. Never giving up, the Highlanders rallied once more in the third set. Two straight thunderous kills from junior Caleb Myers tied the set up 20-apiece, but once again the Blue Jays summoned a late rally to close out the set and the match.
The Highlanders will host Hunter College and Juniata College in a trimatch beginning tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 PM.
