NEWARK, NJ- The Highlanders took on the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-Newark University Thursday night-dropping the CVC matchup by a final score of 3-0.
 
The Scarlet Raiders started off on a hot streak, mounting an 8-2 run right off the bat to take control of the contest. Rutgers-Newark notched 6 of the final 8 points to take the first set 25-13. The Highlanders utilized a tremendous block to play the Scarlet Raiders close in the next set, sitting at a score of 15-16 after a kill from Scott Bassill. Unfortunately, Rutgers-Newark mounted another big run to close out the second set. Riding the momentum of two straight wins, the Scarlet Raiders cruised to a third set win.  The Highlanders notched 10 blocks to lead the match, but just could not find enough offensive firepower to match their defensive prowess.
 
Cairn will host Lancaster Bible College next Tuesday in a matchup between two longtime rivals.
