LANGHORNE, PA- The Highlanders hosted Misericordia University in their third home match of the young season.
The Highlanders struggled a bit in the early stages, facing a high-flying Cougar attack unlike any they have seen this season. Cairn's attack of
Juston Wolgemuth,
Ben Norton, and middles
Collin Benjamin and
Anton Deleon broke through with a couple kills, but were simply unable to overcome Misericordia's size, falling in the first set 25-10. Â
The Highlanders and setter
Ryan Ludvik found their form in a major way in the second set. Ludvik led the Highlanders on a great run to start, showing incredible blocking ability and notching four kills from the setter position. The Highlanders battled hard, but Misericordia came all the way back- taking the second set 25-20.
Cairn finally got over the hump in the third set, leading Misericordia from the start and smashing their way to victory with stellar hitting and excellent defense.
Ben Norton stood out for the Highlanders, showcasing his excellent technique and carding a couple huge kills. A four point run with kills from Norton and
Caleb Myers, as well as two service aces from
Collin Benjamin pushed the Highlanders to the third set victory.
Â
The fourth set followed a similar pattern with both teams trading points until the Cougars used a three point run to take control at 21-17. The Highlanders dropped the fourth set, and the match, but should certainly be encouraged by their adaptability and excellent play against a strong Misericordia team.
Â
The Highlanders will host Wilson College this weekend at 11:00 AM in search of their second victory.
