GLENSIDE, PA – Men's soccer continued their excellent play, extending their win streak to four when they defeated the Arcadia Knights 1-0 in a non-conference matchup.
It was a quiet first half for both teams as offensive chances were few and far between. The Highlanders had perhaps their best chance in the 17
th minute, when a corner kick from
Brett Kikendall bounced around and found the feet of senior
Joey Weaver, who tallied four shots. Unfortunately, the senior sent his attempt just wide of the post and both teams entered the half mired in a 0-0 tie.
The Highlanders' back line suppressed the Arcadia attack with incredible coordination and organization throughout the match. In the 53
rd minute, the Knights played into the Cairn offside trap on three successive attacks to bring their attempts on goal to a grinding halt.
The stalemate was broken in the 81st minute when Weaver struck a perfectly placed free kick that caromed off the underside of the cross bar and into the back of the net. With time rapidly dwindling, the Highlanders held off Arcadia and held on to their 1-0 lead to complete the victory.
Freshman
Kameron Clark started between the pipes and earned his third consecutive shut-out. The Highlanders improved to 5-3-1 on the year and will eagerly look forward to their homecoming match against Clarks Summit University this Saturday at 4:00 PM.
