DOYLESTOWN, PA- Cairn traveled to take on the Delaware Valley Aggies, dropping an incredibly closely-contested matchup 1-0.
Â
The Highlanders started off slowly, struggling to keep up with the quick pace of the Aggie attack. Delaware Valley's blistering pace paid off with a goal in the 12th minute when Calla Gibson slotted past Mackenzie Paugh for the first goal of the day. The Highlanders battled hard to keep the Aggies off the board, with Paugh recording an outstanding six saves in the first half. Cairn bounced back in a major way in the second half, consistently mounting threats on the opposing goal. Lauren Costa, Sarah Jackson, and Brea Zellner each had excellent chances to score midway through the half, but unfortunately were unable to break through and give the Highlanders the game-tying goal. The Highlanders continued to press for the tie, but when Jackson's shot slipped just wide of the net the final buzzer sounded and the Highlanders were handed their first loss in the last five games.
Despite their battles on the field, the Highlanders and Aggies linked up to raise money for an excellent cause off the field. Both teams played this afternoon's game in honor of the Go4TheGoal foundation, lacing up with gold laces to raise money for pediatric cancer. If you'd still like to support- click the link
