GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA- The Highlanders took on former conference opponent Gwynedd Mercy University tonight, defeating the Griffins 3-0 thanks to the excellent play of sophomore midfielder Tim Smith.
Â
The Highlanders applied pressure to the Griffin back line early, with
Brett Kikendall,
Joey Weaver, and
Jared Dodson each firing off quality shots within the first twenty minutes. The Highlanders speedy sophomore midfielder Tim Smith subbed in in the 21
st minute and made his impact just seven minutes later by smashing his first goal of the season past the Gwynedd Mercy keeper. Smith's work for the afternoon was not done yet as he linked up with fellow super sub
Jared Dodson with just 2:51 left in the first half. Dodson played a beautiful cross into the middle to a streaking Smith who volleyed his attempt into the back of the net to give the Highlanders a 2-0 lead. After an excellent first half, the Highlanders controlled much of the second as well, adding one more insurance goal courtesy when Smith assisted fellow sophomore
Brandon Hasko for his second goal of the season.
Â
The Highlanders got back to their winning ways after a recent tough stretch- they'll travel to the University of Valley Forge seeking their second straight win when they take on the Patriots.
