BRYN MAWR, PA- The Highlanders played another hard-fought contest, playing the Bryn Mawr Owls to a stalemate in their second double overtime contest of the year.
Â
The Highlanders tallied first, earning a corner kick after Tori Ruitto's shot was knocked over the crossbar.
Katie Ruitto played an in-swinging corner to her younger sister, who played the ball to
Sara Hayduchok, where the junior smashed her second goal of the season into the back of the net. The Highlanders once again saw a dominating performance from their defense, as the backline thwarted nearly every attack the Owls threw their way. The Highlanders finished the first half with 4 shots to Bryn Mawr's 9, but the all-important 1-0 lead in the game. Unfortunately, the Owls drew level 4 minutes into the second half when a deflected shot bounced over keeper
Mackenzie Paugh's head. While the Highlanders were outshot 16-6 in regulation, they managed a couple of quality chances that very nearly ended the game. Heading into overtime for the second time this season, the Highlanders' right back
Carly Eubank nearly ended the game a mere one minute into overtime. The senior took a pass from 30 yards out, firing a high-arching shot that was tapped away by Bryn Mawr's Carlie Hansen at the last second.
Dakota Hitchner's shot off the rebound caromed off the post, and
Brea Zellner fired one more chance that was saved by Hansen. Cairn buckled down over the final ten minutes, not mustering any chances, but showing incredible grit to resist the Owl's late push in front of their home crowd.

After an opening game loss, the Highlanders have seen nothing but positivity over the last two weeks with a win and two draws. Next up is a match with the University of Valley Forge at 4:00 PM this Thursday.
