Late Rally Resuscitates Cairn's Cardiac Kids Against Centenary

LANGHORNE, PA- Looking for another conference sweep, the Highlanders used yet another late rally to defeat the visiting Cyclones of Centenary University.

The Highlanders struggled to decipher Cyclones crafty starter Christopher Lilly, as Lilly frustrated Cairn's hot bats for nearly eight innings. Cairn starter Carson Conradt battled through five innings, limiting the Cyclones to only 3 runs despite not having his best stuff. Fortunately, Nat Ross came through shutting Centenary down in relief, and giving the Highlanders a chance to comeback yet again.

Showing a flair for the dramatic, the Highlanders charged back in the bottom of the 8th when Jake Allen broke Lilly's rhythm by dropping a bunt single down the third base line. Daniel Morales watched four straight pitches go by to put two men on and force Lilly from the game. With no outs and momentum swinging Cairn's way, Nate Wilson mashed a double to deep center field, scoring both Allen and Morales and bringing the Highlanders within one run. After another four pitch walk, Centenary changed pitchers once more and Brett Marks struck the decisive blow with another long double to the right field fence, scoring two to give Cairn a 4-3 lead. Highlanders DH Dan Bierc followed up Marks' double by demolishing a first pitch fastball over the left field fence to provide a crucial insurance run. After the Cyclones notched a run, Highlanders shortstop Nate Wilson stepped to the mound and shut the door for his first save of the season.

The Highlanders improved to 16-7 on the season, sitting only three wins away from the highest win total in Cairn history. Cairn will seek their fifth straight victory against PSU-Abington, when they host the Nittany Lions tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 PM.
