LANGHORNE, PA- The Highlanders rebounded after a tough first two innings to defeat the visiting Marywood Pacers and notch their second conference win of the season.
Â
After a split against Immaculata in their first two CSAC games, the Highlanders welcomed Marywood to Langhorne for a single game, before traveling to Scranton to take on the Pacers again later this week. Marywood jumped on Cairn from the start, taking a 4-0 lead after the first two innings. Starter
Eric Stinglen settled down, shutting down the Pacers in the third inning, before conceding the mound to
Sam Dralle. Cairn got on the board in the second when first basemen
Daniel Morales doubled to the center field fence.
Alejandro Fernandez followed with a seeing eye single past the shortstop to knock Morales home for the Highlanders first run of the afternoon. The Highlanders continued to chip away at the four run deficit in the third,
Jacob Allen singled,
Brian Amantia doubled down the right field line, and Nate Wilson got the job done with a groundout that plated Allen for the Highlanders second run. In the fourth, Fernandez and Dan Bierc smoked back-to-back doubles to bring the Highlanders within one run, before Bierc showed great awareness, scoring on a wild pitch to tie the game. Marywood took the lead right back in the top of the fifth, but a Morales triple and another Fernandez double brought the Highlanders right back. The Highlanders finally took the lead in the bottom of the seventh when freshman
Brian Amantia led off with a towering fly ball to right field. Amantia's third homerun of the season gave the Highlanders a jolt as
Emilio Alvarez and
Brett Marks smacked back-to-back singles, before Morales hit a sac fly to give Cairn a much-needed insurance run. After such a dominant game at the plate, Morales took the mound looking for his second save and the Highlanders second CSAC win of the season. After two straight singles and a stolen base, Marywood was in great position to tie the game with men on second and third and only one out. Morales locked in and struck out the next batter for his second out, before inducing a pop out for the third and final out of the game.
Â
Sam Dralle was dominant in his fourth straight outing, pitching five innings of two hit ball for the win, and Morales picked up his second save of the year as well. At the plate, Fernandez led Cairn with a 3-4 showing and 2 RBIs, Morales went 2-3 with a double and triple, and Amantia managed another impressive 2-4 performance with a double and homerun.

The Highlanders will finish the series against Marywood on Thursday afternoon in Scranton.
