Hit Parade Leads Highlanders Past Central Penn

LANGHORNE, PA- The Highlanders kept up the momentum of their doubleheader sweep last week, rolling over the Central Penn Knights 20-4 in an out-of-conference matchup.

The Highlanders thoroughly dominated today's matchup, jumping on the Knights and notching five runs in the bottom of the first to take a 5-2 lead. Cairn loaded the bases to put the pressure on Knights starter Luis Padilla, and the Highlanders did not disappoint. DH Mason Mckinley drove in the first run when he was hit by a pitch, an Alejandro Fernandez single drove in two more runs, and Brett Marks finished the rally when his single scored both Fernandez and Mckinley. Center fielder Brian Amantia continued the hot start to his freshman campaign by crushing his second homerun of the season to deep right field to stretch the lead one more run to 6-2. The Highlanders held a commanding 8-2 lead over the next couple innings as starter Eric Stingled buckled down and shut down the Knights offense. After two scoreless frames, the Highlanders bats were jolted awake once more in the 6th and 7th, when Cairn plated 5 and 7 runs to put the game firmly out of reach. Stinglen picked up the win, Fernandez led the team with 3 hits, and Brett Marks (5 RBIs) and Nate Wilson (3 RBIs) each played their part in the Highlanders offensive outburst.

With no rest on the horizon, the Highlanders are back in action tomorrow afternoon at FDU-Florham. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
