LANGHORNE, PA- In front of another spirited crowd at the Mason Activity Center, the Highlanders played some excellent volleyball, but unfortunately dropped the match to the Ramapo Roadrunners, 23-25, 12-25, and 23-25.
Â
The Highlanders showed their grit in the first set, battling back from a substantial six point deficit to start the match. Cairn chipped away over the set, taking two and three points for every one scored by the Roadrunners. With the score sitting at 16-19, a Ramapo service error and kill from
Micah Godshall brought the Highlanders within one. Ramapo stretched the lead back to three points, 23-20, but
Jon Simpson found Godshall for another kill, and two more errors from the Roadrunners brough the Highlanders within one with the game on the line. Unfortunately, Cairn was unable to overcome the Roadrunners, dropping the first set 23-25. After a tough second set, the Highlanders found their footing in the third once more, with Godshall,
Ben Norton, and Scott Bassill leading the offense,
Juston Wolgemuth leading the defense, and
Ryan Ludvik, Anton Deleon, and
Joffrey Rosa providing a stifling block. Two straight blocks from Rosa and Ludvik put the Highlanders ahead 21-19, until the Roadrunners battled back with a couple kills of their own. With the Highlanders leading 23-22, Ramapo would fight all the way back taking the third set 25-23.
Â
Godshall finished with 10 kills, Ludvik and Simpson dished out 10 and 9 assists, and Rosa tallied 3 blocks.
Â
The Highlanders are back in action this weekend, hosting a tri-match with Fontbonne University and Lehman College.
