LANGHORNE, PA- In front of a high energy crowd, the Highlanders dispatched the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University 3-1 on the senior night of volleyball stalwarts
Micah Godshall and
Joffrey Rosa.
Â
Feeding off the crowd's energy, Cairn jumped on the Gothic Knights from the start, using a huge 9-0 serving run by Scott Bassill to take the first set with ease, 25-12. In a back-and-forth second set, the Highlanders struggled to find the same rhythm as the first, taking the lead various times, but always giving the lead back with unforced errors. With the score tied 21-all, NJCU rattled off 4 straight points to take the second set and even the match. NCJU took the lead 8-4 in the third set, but Cairn slowly chipped away at the deficit thanks to a couple huge smashes from
Micah Godshall and stellar blocking from
Joffrey Rosa and Anton Deleon in the center of the court. After two kills brought the Gothic Knights within two, Rosa pounded a set from
Ryan Ludvik straight down to give Cairn a third set victory. After outlasting NJCU's best shots in the third set, the Highlanders put their foot on the throttle in the fourth to complete their senior night victory.
Â
Godshall finished with 19 kills and 13 digs on senior night, while Rosa made his mark with 6 kills and 5 blocks. Setter
Ryan Ludvik dished out 31 assists while also tallying 5 blocks of his own.
Â
The Highlanders are back in action again tonight, taking on Ramapo at 7:00 PM. Â
