Highlanders Split Doubleheader

LANCASTER, PA- After another snow-filled weak laid waste to the Highlanders schedule, the Highlanders finally made it to Lancaster, defeating Maranatha Baptist 3-1 and dropping their match to the Chargers of Lancaster Bible 0-3.

In their first match of the day, the Highlanders used their stellar defense to defeat the Maranatha Baptist Sabercats in the first two sets, before handily winning the fourth set 25-12. A four point run put Cairn ahead 12-5 in the first set, the Highlanders would not look back, skating to a 25-21 victory in the first. The Highlanders started off slowly in the second set, trailing 10-15 until two straight kills from Micah Godshall jolted the Highlanders to a five point run to bring the Highlanders back. The Sabercats took the lead back at 22-18, but the Highlanders never wilted, scoring 7 of the last 8 points to take the second set 25-23. After a third set loss, the Highlanders bounced back in a major way, sealing the win with a 25-12 fourth set victory.

Micah Godshall notched 23 kills and 10 digs, Anton Deleon smashed 5 of his own, and Ryan Ludvik dished out 34 assists. Defensively, the Highlanders finished with 20 blocks and an impressive 48 digs, led by libero Juston Wolgemuth with 13 of his own.

Playing back-to-back matches and facing off against the home team Lancaster Bible Chargers, the Highlanders struggled a bit in the day's second match. The Highlanders put up a great fight in the first set, leading 15-12 after two kills from Ryan Ludvik and Scott Bassill pushed Cairn ahead. Unfortunately for Cairn, the Chargers bounced back and the Highlanders tired legs spelled defeat in their second match of the day. Godshall finished with 8 more kills, while Ryan Ludvik handed out 11 assists and tallied 7 digs.

Cairn will be back in action on Monday night for senior night when they host NJCU at 7:00 PM.
