LANGHORNE, PA- The Cairn University Highlanders took the floor against Neumann University, sweeping the Knights on Monday night. With the student body easing back in after spring break, the Highlanders treated the fans to a straight set sweep, winning 25-18, 25-17, and 25-18.
The Highlanders trailed early on in the first set until five kills from
Micah Godshall and two Knights errors allowed the Highlanders to take the lead, 10-6. Another 5-1 run would put Cairn firmly in control at 15-8, and the Highlanders finished the first set victory when
Ryan Ludvik caught the defense by surprise for the finishing kill. Cairn carried the momentum into the second set as Ludvik smashed two service aces past the Neumann defense to quickly put the Highlanders on top. Cairn coasted through the second set due in large part to stellar offense from each of their outside and opposite hitters. The Highlanders led again in the third as
Jon Simpson organized the Highlander offense, dishing out assists all over the court and staking Cairn to a commanding 21-11 lead. When Simpson and Ismael Santana connected for two more kills, the Highlanders officially took the third set and the match in straight sets.
Godshall finished with 14 kills and 9 digs,
Juston Wolgemuth tallied 11 digs of his own, and setter
Ryan Ludvik notched 22 assists and 5 kills of his own.
The Highlanders will be back in action on Wednesday night when they host Ramapo College at 7:00 PM.
