NEWARK, NJ- After cruising to a 3-0 victory over CVC opponent Neumann University just two nights ago, the Highlanders had a tougher time tonight against the CVC leading Rutgers-Newark Scarlet Raiders.
Â
The first set started out well for the Highlanders as
Ben Norton and
Micah Godshall each pounded sets from
Ryan Ludvik for the game's first two points. Unfortunately, the Scarlet Raiders came storming back, mounting an 8-0 run to take control of the night's first set and defeat Cairn 25-10. The Highlanders scuffled in the second set as well, seeking to find their groove in the drafty dome of Rutgers-Newark. The Highlanders again fell down early, and dropped the second set 25-12. Cairn found their footing in the third set as Ludvik and the Highlander attackers synced up to threaten the Scarlet Raiders. The Highlanders used a 5-0 run in the middle of the set to grab the lead 13-11. Three straight Rutgers-Newark kills drew them ahead, but
Micah Godshall quickly killed another Ludvik set to bring the Highlanders even once again. The game stayed even, until the Scarlet Raiders went on a 6-0 run to take control for the final time and win the set 25-18, and the match 3-0.
Â
Cairn was led by
Micah Godshall with 15 kills, Ludvik with 20 assists and 7 digs, and
Ben Norton with 4 kills and 7 digs.
Â
The Highlanders will open up their home schedule with a tri-match against Eastern Mennonite University (10:00 AM) and Mount Ida College (2:00 PM) tomorrow morning. Tune in at CairnHighlanders.com/tv to watch all the action.
