Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Highlanders Split First Home Match of the Season

LANGHORNE, PA- The Highlanders opened up their home schedule with a tri-match against Eastern Mennonite University and Mount Ida College. The Highlanders dropped the first match to EMU, 0-3, but battled back against the Mount Ida Mustangs winning the day's second match, 3-0.

Perhaps due to their game last night at Rutgers-Newark, the Highlanders looked a touch sluggish in their first match against Eastern Mennonite University. Coming close, but never fully challenging the Royals the Highlanders dropped three straight sets as their offense simply could not get on track. Cairn played the Royals tough in the third set, evening the score at 12-12 with back-to-back kills from Micah Godshall and Aaron Delbury. However, the Royals rattled off a 5-0 run to retake control of the game and win the day's first match, 3-0.

Jolted awake by the first match loss, the Highlanders came out on fire against Mount Ida, taking a 6-2 lead as Godshall and Ben Norton found the floor with a couple early swings. The Mustangs battled back, bringing the game as close as one point, but a kill from Joffrey Rosa solidified the Highlanders first set win. The second set followed a similar script as the Highlanders led 20-11 thanks to powerful offense and stifling defense. The Mustangs fought back yet again, but Micah Godshall finished the game with an absolutely thunderous kill on a Mount Ida overpass. Having fully found their groove in their sixth set of the day, the Highlanders rolled over the Mustangs winning 25-19 when Ben Norton's kill hit the ground.

Cairn edged closer to .500 with the win, improving to 4-5 on the season. Godshall led with 15 kills and 6 service aces, Ben Norton tallied 7 of his own to go along with 6 digs, and Ryan Ludvik tossed out 26 dimes for the match.

The Highlanders will be in action next when they host Kean University and York College (NY) on the 16th of February. The first match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM.
