Highlanders Leap Past Cardinals

LANGHORNE, PA- The Highlanders hosted their second home match of the season tonight, welcoming both #8 nationally-ranked Kean University and York College to the Mason Activity Center. After a closely contested loss to the Kean Cougars, the Highlanders bounced back, thoroughly defeating the York Cardinals in the night's final match.

Against the 11-2 Kean Cougars, the Highlanders played an excellent match despite the loss. Setter Ryan Ludvik and opposite hitter Micah Godshall were in sync the entire match as Godshall powered through the Kean block on his way to a match-leading 13 kills. The Highlanders dropped the first two sets 15-25, and put a scare into the Cougars in the third. With Kean leading 13-9, back-to-back kills from Anton Delon and Godshall, and an ace from Jon Simpson brought the Highlanders within two points midway through the set. The Highlanders were again within two points at 17-19, but Kean pulled away down the stretch winning by a final score of 25-19.

In the Highlanders second match of the night the Highlanders grabbed hold of the lead right off the bat. Three straight aces from Godshall gave the Highlanders an 11-5 lead, one they would not relinquish, winning the first set on the back of a 9-0 run to close it out. Setter Ryan Ludvik led the way with his serve against the Cardinals, tallying 10 service aces and 14 total points. Godshall again led the way with 6 kills, middle hitter Joffrey Rosa notched 5, and Jon Simpson dished out 15 assists while smashing 4 service aces of his own.

The Highlanders will play another home match Tuesday night against Rutgers-Newark with the night's proceedings beginning at 7:00 PM.
