LANGHORNE, PA- In a rare standalone match the Highlanders welcomed the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers-Newark University to the Mason Activity Center for a CVC match. The Highlanders played the 10-1 Rutgers-Newark squad tough, but dropped all three sets by a slim margin.
The Highlanders started out on fire taking an 8-7 lead, until the Scarlet Knights rattled off an 8 point run to take the reins of the first set and win 25-15. Cairn came storming back in the second set as
Micah Godshall,
Ryan Ludvik, and
Joffrey Rosa led the Highlander attack to an 18-17 lead, and a 21-19 lead a couple points later. With the match tied 23 all, Rutgers-Newark was able to summon victory at the last moment with two kills down the stretch. Seeking a bounce back after the first two sets, the Highlanders fought hard in the third, but again were unable to overcome Rutger-Newark's prodigious defense.
The Highlanders will be back in action this weekend when they hit the road to take on Thiel and Juniata in two more CVC matchups.
