SHIPPENSBURG, PA- The Highlanders took to the road, taking on Wilson College on a humid Sunday afternoon, and outlasting the Phoenix to win their 7
th straight, and improve to 3-0 in CSAC play.
Â
Cairn kept up their stellar play as
Brandon Hasko netted the afternoon's first goal in just the 15
th minute. Hasko, who has come on incredibly strong over the last three weeks, gathered a pass from
Joey Weaver and fired his attempt past a diving Wilson keeper on the left side and giving Cairn a 1-0 lead. The Phoenix rose over the next half hour of play, continually testing the Highlanders keeper
Kameron Clark and finally breaking through as time wound down in the first half. Wilson's forward Samuel Appiah volleyed a cross into the top right corner, out of the reach of even Clark's considerable wingspan.
Â
The Highlanders ramped up the pressure early in the second half, with the best chance coming when
Brendan Keller played a perfect through ball to Weaver, whose attempt nearly missed on the left side of the post. Fortunately, Keller linked up with Hasko just a minute later. Keller's cross found the foot of Hasko who expertly slotted his second goal of the afternoon into the back of the net. Hasko's goal marked his 5
th of the season, already just one off of his tally from last season. Despite some incredibly spirited play from the Phoenix over the remaining 40 minutes, the Highlanders were able to buckle down on defense and keep Wilson off the board. The Phoenix notched two shots and three corner kicks in the last four minutes to test Ty Smith and the Highlanders back line, but Cairn would not crumble, winning their seventh straight, 2-1.
Â
The Highlanders improved to 8-3-1 with the win and remain atop the CSAC with a perfect 3-0 record. Cairn will host Widener University in non-conference play this Wednesday, kick off is slated for 3:00 PM.
