LANGHORNE, PA- The Highlanders kept up their winnings ways against Widener, defeating the Pride 3-0 thanks to three incredible goals from
Brett Kikendall (2) and
Jared Dodson (1).
The Highlanders started the game conservatively, controlling play but garnering very few scoring chances. The tide of the game turned in the 22
nd minute when goalkeeper
Kameron Clark caught the defense off guard with a rocketed through ball from the net, over the defense, and perfectly into the path of forward
Brendan Keller. With Keller careening towards the net, Widener's keeper came rushing out, but touched the bouncing through ball with his hand outside of the box- earning a red card and giving the Highlanders a free kick at the top of the eighteen. As he's done so many times before,
Brett Kikendall hit an absolutely perfect kick over the wall, off the left post, and into the back of the net to put Cairn up 1-0. With a one goal lead, and a one man advantage, the Highlanders played patient soccer over the rest of the first half and happily took their lead into the break. Just seven minutes into the second half, Kikendall summoned a bit of individual magic once more. The junior gathered the ball in the center of the pitch, evaded two defenders, and fired a shot from 30 yards out and into the back of the net while being pushed to the ground. The Highlanders goal scoring efforts were not complete as Ty Smith and
Jared Dodson linked up in the 60
th minute for Cairn's third goal of the day. Smith played a high-arching free kick from Highlander territory all the way into the box where a charging Dodson met it perfectly with his head, sending his attempt over the goalies head and into the back of the net.
With the 3-0 victory the Highlanders have now won their last 8 contests and improved to 9-3-1 on the year. With only two more chances to see the Highlanders at home in the regular season, all Highlander fans need to come support this Saturday when Cairn takes on Rosemont in CSAC play at 3:00 PM.
