Highlanders Win Second Straight vs. Wilson

CHAMBERSBURG, PA- The Highlanders traveled to Wilson College Tuesday afternoon for their first CSAC match against the Phoenix. Coming off a win against Rosemont this weekend, the Highlanders were able to continue their stellar play, defeating Wilson 2-1 and moving to third place in the CSAC.

The Highlanders brought the pressure early, firing countless shots and forcing Wilson keeper Aubrey Runkle into three saves over the first 20 minutes. Freshman Lauren Costa had the best early chance with a long range shot that nearly missed and smacked off the unforgiving post. The sister act of Katie and Tori Ruitto further illustrated their incredible chemistry as Katie's corner kick perfectly found a sprinting Tori who headed home her fourth goal of the season and gave the Highlanders a 1-0 lead. The Highlanders kept up their excellent play, but unfortunately, Wilson leveled the game in the 43rd  minute when Noemi Regan raced down the field on the counterattack, slipping a shot past Mackenzie Paugh in the dying moments of the first half. The second half started with a bang as Brea Zellner ripped a shot from thirty yards, beating the Wilson keeper and putting Cairn back on top in the 52nd minute. The Highlanders continued their dominating play, buckling down on defense and limiting Wilson to only three shots. When the final whistle blew, the Highlanders had officially completed their second straight victory, improving to 5-3-2 on the year, and winning the third of their last four games.

Despite a slim one goal margin of victory, Cairn controlled the entire contest; firing 18 shots to Wilson's 6, and notching a commanding 8 corner kicks to 0 for the Phoenix. With no rest for the weary, the Highlanders will be in action once again on Thursday as they host the Notre Dame (MD) University Gators at 3:30 PM.
