LA PLUME, PA- The Highlanders hit the road yesterday, capping off a record-breaking regular season with a 3-0 victory over the Keystone Giants.
With a CSAC playoff spot already in the books, the Highlanders took on Keystone with the third seed on the line. The Highlanders, who are without a doubt hitting their stride in the latter half of the season, dominated the contest from the start. Despite controlling play and firing off 8 shots to the Giants 0 in the first half, Cairn was unable to break through in the first period of play. The Highlanders veterans took the game into their own hands in the second half, as
Katie Ruitto assisted
Sara Hayduchok in the 68
th minute for the afternoon's first goal and Hayduchok's 7
th of the season. Never complacent, Ruitto notched an individual effort just seven minutes later to put the Highlanders ahead by a comfortable 2 goal margin. When
Dakota Hitchner finished her 5
th of the season in the 88
th the Highlanders had officially coasted to their 10
th win and finished the regular season with a 6-2 CSAC record.
The 2018 season stands alone atop the Cairn record books, as the Highlanders .676 winning percentage is the top mark in the history of Cairn Women's Soccer! The Highlanders will seek to continue their special season when they host Bryn Athyn College in the first round of the CSAC playoffs at 3:00 PM Monday afternoon.
