Men's Soccer Triumphs Over Rosemont For First CSAC Victory

LANGHORNE, PA- In the first conference tilt of the season, Cairn dispatched the visiting Ravens of Rosemont College by a score of 3-1 to stretch their winning streak to 5 games.

Brendan Keller tallied the first goal of the afternoon for the Highlanders when he brought down a perfectly weighted Paul Franco through ball over-the-top and blasted past the keeper into the right corner. In an aggressive first half that saw numerous chances for each team, the Ravens tied the match at 1-1 with an absolute laser from 35 yards out by Rosemont captain Cavit Ula. The Highlanders would threaten instantly after, when a Brendan Keller cross found Brady Dorman in front of goal, however the senior blasted his chance over the crossbar. Dorman would have another great opportunity later in the half when a cross found his head but the midfielder narrowly missed a goal once again. Brett Kikendall began to exert his influence on the game late in the second half, namely with an excellent run from near midfield, past multiple defenders, and into the box where his shot was saved by an outstretched Rosemont keeper.

Perhaps due to an unusually hot late September day both teams played sloppy over the first part of the second half. A couple decent chances for each team led to nothing substantial as both the Ravens and Highlanders employed a strategy largely consisting of long balls throughout the first third of the second half. The Highlanders took the lead in the 68th minute when a John Michael Redding cross found the chest of Brendan Keller just outside of the box. Keller chested the cross into the air and fired an absolute stunner of a volley into the top left corner to give the Highlanders the lead. The sophomore is on an absolute tear of late, tallying 6 goals in his last 5 games, each of which have been Cairn victories. Joey Weaver nearly put in the Highlanders third of the afternoon, tipping a bouncing ball over the keeper but firing just wide. The imposing Tyler Smith would seal the deal for the Highlanders in the 79th minute, leaping high above the defense and netting his first of the season with a header off of a Kikendall free kick.

The streak chugs on as the Highlanders have won their 5th straight and remain undefeated at home. They will be back on the pitch at Immaculata University, Wednesday night, 9/27, at 4:00 PM.
