Cairn Coasts to 10-1 Victory

LANGHORNE, PA- After being denied goals in their first two contests, the Highlanders put in a dominating performance against the University of Valley Forge this afternoon, defeating the Patriots by a final score of 10-1.

Hat-trick hero Sara Hayduchok opened the scoring for Cairn with two spectacular individual goals, evading multiple defenders and skillfully blasting both shots past the Patriots' keeper. Sophomore Katie Ruitto would add to the Highlanders tally 47 seconds later, netting a goal off the left post after a Kelsey Lewis free kick caught her perfectly in stride. The Highlanders would add two more goals before the half by way of Courtney Novak and Sami Thompson's first goals of the season. Additionally, forward Sony MacBain was an absolute terror for the Highlanders; the freshman kept the Valley Forge back line busy, hitting the post with 4 shots and adding one assist. The Highlanders led 5-0 at the half.

Payton Emerick, after spending the first half as keeper, made up for lost time in the 47th minute when she controlled a deflected Hayduchok shot and deposited her first goal into the back of the net. After a Patriots breakaway goal in the 59th minute, Cairn would quickly answer with two more goals by Angela Paskitti and Emerick. Hayduchok completed her hat-trick in the 72nd, as she ran onto a loose ball, deked the keeper and slotted the ball into the right corner. When Ellie Santos added a breakaway goal of her own in the 86th minute the Highlanders damage was done and the Cairn Women's Soccer Team had achieved their first win of this young season!

The Highlanders incessant attack on net led to a staggering 40 shots, 9 corners, 10 goals, and 4 assists.

Cairn will be back in action this Saturday, 9/16, at 4 PM when they travel to Marywood University to open up conference play.
