Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Halftime Deficit Too Much For Highlanders At Cabrini

Radnor, PA - The Cairn men's basketball team trailed 46-25 at the half, but a strong second-half brought the Highlanders within nine at 71-62 with 6:08 left in the game. Cabrini pulled away late, thanks to a 13-5 run over the final five minutes for the 84-67 victory. Zachary Dolton led the Highlanders' effort with 19 points and five rebounds in the game.

Dolton was one of nine scorers for the Highlanders on the evening. Joining Dolton in double-figures was Gerroid Doughty II with 11 points off the bench. In his first career start, Eric Jacobs dropped a career-high nine points with three treys.

The Cavaliers and Highlanders battled in the early going and Cairn trailed 11-10 after a Jacobs' three 6:17 in to the contest. Cabrini followed up the triple from Jacobs with a 10-0 run that pushed their lead to 21-10. Another three from Jacobs ended the run and Seil Park hit a jumper on Cairn's next possession to close the gap to five.

Cabrini again responded with a run, this time a 13-2 advantage that extended the lead to 34-17. The Highlanders struggled to find the bottom of the cup and the Cavs extended their lead to as many as 24 points in the first-half. Gerroid Doughty II knocked down a three just before the halftime horn and Cairn trailed 46-25 at the break.

After the half, the Highlanders began chipping away at the Cabrini lead. Over the opening 14 minutes of the half, the Highlanders slowed chiseled away at the 21-point halftime deficit. An 8-2 run started the half and brought Cairn within 15 at 48-33.

With 13:27 left in regulation the Cabrini lead stood at 56-43 after back-to-back threes from JD Zamroz and Zachary Dolton.

Seven minutes later, Zamroz knocked down another three to cut the lead to single digits at 71-62. That would be as close as the Highlanders would get as the Cavaliers ended the game on a 13-5 run over the final five-plus minutes to pull out the 84-67 victory.

In the second-half alone, the Highlanders went 7-12 from beyond the arc, including a 4-6 effort from Dolton. The Highlanders were just 4-14 from downtown in the first-half (28.6%).

It was a tale of two halves as Cairn shot 22.6% in the first-half (7-31), compared to a 55.6% clip after the break (15-27).

For Cabrini, Tyheim Monroe went for an impressive 22 point, 20 rebound double-double. It was his second double-double with 20-plus rebounds and points.

The loss drops the Highlanders to 5-17 overall and 3-12 in the CSAC. Cairn will next take the floor on Saturday when they travel to Neumann to take on the Knights at 3:00 p.m.
